about

Atlantic sons is Scottish singer/songwriter Scott Donaldsons first solo project.

The journey started in a dirty little back lane studio in a run down industrial area of Paisley Scotland. Taking many twists and turns, spanning over three decades, Scott eventually found his way to drummer and producer Sammy Merendinos studio in Harlem New York City.

Throughout his lifetime, Scott has spent more than 20 years living and working as a professional musician in London. He has recorded and worked live with many artists such as close friend and co/writer Andy Pawlak, The Prodigy, Ray Davies. In between working with various bands and other artists solo projects he also composed music for Film, TV and Radio. This music was featured on many films,
TV shows, documentaries and adverts, which were broadcast worldwide. Scott valued all of these experiences, and with each one, he has learned a little more about people and the art he loves and lives for.

In 2011 an opportunity to write and record an album with another close friend, singer/songwriter Umberto Marzotto came about. This took the pair travelling all over the US, spending most of that time in NYC, Tucson and Santa Fe.

While in New York, they spent many a lost night in a little bar called “78 Below” on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This magical basement bar on the corner of W78th and Columbus, now closed, was a well know hang for some of the greatest musicians in America. Members of Steely Dan, Tom Petty, The Blues Brothers, Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow, David Letterman Show, The Saturday Night Live band mingled among the top session guys and girls in the city. When not out touring or recording these amazing artists would be brought together by Jonny Rosch a well known and respected NYC musician, to jam for fun and for free! The craic was 90 the music mighty and drinks would flow until at least 4am. It was truly a unique place to find yourself, and as a musician, it was simply inspirational.

Scott performed original songs and covers there from time to time with various musicians. Once jamming with one of his favorite guitarists Danny (Kootch) Kortchmar. Kootch recorded and wrote with many artists such as Carole King, James Taylor, Don Henley, Neil Young, Jackson Browne.

There was also a memorable night spent drinking with Staxx recording legends and original Blues Brothers Donald Duck Dunn, Steve Cropper and Eddie Floyd after an invite to one of their shows at the Highline Ballroom NYC. After the show at the bar these legendary musicians shared stories of touring and of the incredible artists they had worked with over the years, like Otis Reading, Wilson Picket, Booker T, John Prine and many more. Scott heard how the songs Sitting on the dock of the bay, In the midnight hour and Knock on wood were written.

Hanging and playing at "78 Below" led to a friendship with Sammy Merendino, Chris Palmaro, Tony Garnier and Roger Squiterro. These guys have played with (and still do) some of the biggest names in the business, like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Cyndi Lauper, Beck, Paul Simon, Ry Cooder, KD Lang, Luther Vandross, The Alpha Band, Carly Simon, this list could go on forever.

Scott asked Sammy (Drums) Chris (Keys) Tony (Bass) and Roger (Percussion) if they would like to record his first record with him at Sammys studio Harlem Parlour Recording.

They all agreed!

Joined by engineer Tim Hatfield, David Mansfield on Pedal Steel, as well as Tiu De Haan, David Stone, Elaine Carswell and Neil Coomer on backing vocals in the studio.
The 9 track album “Loneliness comes creepin’ produced by Sammy and Scott, mixed by Simon Vinestock was finally made.
The rest, as they say, is history.
